The 4th Centralised event of the 2001 season was held at Oakington on May 27th on a day which stayed fine albeit a bit blustery.
Brian Turner had done a lot of work in putting concrete landing areas around the pitting segments following the many problems experienced by teams at the previous event here. The local club had also been applying weed killer to discourage weeds further damaging the surface.
11 Teams turned up on the day and racing got underway at 12:30 with 4 rounds of heats being flown around 20 minute breaks between rounds to give teams practice slots..
Ross/Turner led the way once again with a 3:19.6 in the first race - a time not to be bettered during the day.
Many well known teams were having problems and racing was again rather poor.
It was good to see a new team at this event - Sharp/North flying at their first ever F2C event using Nelson Equipment. Unfortunately their flying was cut short when the model hit the palm of the pitmans hand cutting a deep gash and causing a quick trip to the local hospital.
