Odiham Centralised Event – September 14th 2003

The centralised meeting that had been scheduled to take place at Dartford on 14^th September had to be rearranged at the last minute due to the fact that the Dartford site had been “Occupied” by “Travellers”. With the weather being absolutely superb we were luck that Chris Barker was able to arrange for us to fly at Odiham instead – a big thanks to Chris !

Only 6 teams turned up and, as a result, 5 rounds were offered to competitors but only two teams actually flew the extra race at the end.

In the first round it was Fitzgerald/Thomason who led the way – posting a 3:18.1 in the first race of the day. It looked like a close race between them and Smith/Brown until Colin missed a catch and as a result only posted 3:32.3. Tribe/Bollen put in a good run to record a 3:29.3 but no-one else was to break the 3:30 barrier.

In the second round Smith/Brown had a real flyer and finished with a superb 3:10.1 and Fitzgerald/Thomason put in a good backup time of 3:22.5. Again – no-one else was to get inside 3:30.

No changes were seen in round three but, in round 4, Fry/Whorton had a decent run – recording a 3:26.3 as a result and thus taking third place. Dave and Andy did aim to fly in the 5^th round but the motor stopped suddenly when warming up – investigation showing that a bit of carbon had broken off the front of the canopy and been ingested by their Yugov 15 – hopefully no damage done !

Miles/Yeldham and Barker/North flew a two up, as a result, in round 5 but neither team was able to affect the placings.

A big thank-you to Clive Sharp who turned up to act as CD on the day as Dave Rudd was not available. Hope we will see you at Oakington Dave ??.
